I believe that the practice of law is about providing support and solutions. I established Portia Talley Law PLLC to offer practical solutions for business owners and anyone seeking alternative dispute resolutions. I want to use my firm as a platform to build successful community relationships within the Central Texas Area.
I graduated with distinction as a member of the Leadership Academy from C.E. Ellison High School right here in Killeen, Texas. I received my Bachelor of Arts from Duke University with a dual-major in French and International Comparative Studies and a minor in African and African American Studies. After falling in love with the Durham community, I continued my education at North Carolina Central University School of Law where I received my Juris Doctor with Honors. While I am a proud Cameron Crazy and Legal Eagle, the Central Texas community is important to me because this is home.
I currently live in Killeen, Texas with my husband John and our two children, Taliyah & Jasiri. For eight years, I served the Killeen community as a certified French, special education teacher, and a basketball coach at Killeen High School. As a former military dependent and Killeen native, I am keenly aware of the special circumstances that make this city without limits so unique, and I stand ready & able to serve my community as a practicing attorney.
Portia has had multiple prestigious internships to develop her legal expertise in a variety of practice areas. She interned at Bourlon & Davis PA, a family and criminal law firm in Durham, North Carolina. She had the privilege of clerking in Washington, DC for the Honorable Federal Magistrate Judge Deborah A Robinson. During the academic year, she served as a graduate research assistant and an extern for Cheshire Comedy Publishing.
Law school infused a passion for assisting small business owners. Portia focused her coursework on achieving a deeper understanding of the business operations and transactions. She has extensive education and training in employment law, intellectual property law, and business and commercial law. She represented Durham business owners as an active participant in the Small Business & Community Development Clinic. She was an influential member of the Intellectual Property Society, the Trademark Moot Court Board, the BLSA Trial Team, and the Sports & Entertainment Law Society, with each activity fine-tuning her small business advocacy skills.
Upon her admission to State Bar of Texas, Portia became a certified attorney-mediator. Portia has contracted with a team of skilled mediators, with a variety of experience and expertise, to offer co-mediation sessions to help clients seeking alternative dispute resolution. Portia also serves as a parent attorney for Centex Child Protection Court. Because of her continued commitment to legal education, training and activism, she is a member of the Texas Bar College, and a member of the Bell County Bar Association.
Staying true to her passions, Portia started her own small practice in the Atlanta area where she focused her practice in small business, criminal law and entertainment law. She has had the opportunity to represent a variety of small business owners from art galleries, photographers, medical doctors, publishers, cleaning companies, producers and entertainers.
